2Story Is Connnection
The Lived Experience Toolkit was developed in partnership with Story is Connection and funding from a Study NSW partner program. It aims to develop and proliferate resources for the improvement of the mental health of NSW international students. LET Your Story Talk is a toolkit centred around the stories of nine international students, represented in short film. It intends to promote discussion of common challenges and destigmatise asking for help, and mental health challenges among international students.
This workshop is designed to introduce education professionals to the Lived Experience Toolkit and link the voice of the lived experience of nine international students to the practical use of the resources and support tools.
The session is not a mental health first aid program but rather a workshop to assist practitioners to use the toolkit that can sit alongside mental health first aid and other support services on campus and in the community more broadly.
The session will:
- guide attendees through the toolkit resources, talking points and questions to benefit and enhance the support provided to international students.
- explore and workshop how professionals might use the resources in their workplaces, and embed into practice.
- using the toolkit, build confidence in proactively holding conversations with students and team members about mental health.
- build an understanding of preventative activities and how circumstances impact on mental health.
- Help attendees identify opportunities to circulate and encourage students to use the toolkit when supporting other students.
