Connections with First Nations:

Does your research explore the importance of international student connection with First Nation student peers, or are you offering programs at your institution that connect international students with First Nations students and/or their communities?

Cultural Safety:

Does your research explore the importance of cultural safety for international students to thrive in their academic and personal lives? Are you developing campaigns and or delivering programs at your institution that aim to increase cultural safety within your campus and community?

Belonging:

Does your research explore the importance of building a sense of belonging for students with their campus and community? Are you delivering programs at your institution that aim to build a sense of belonging for your students with their campus and community?

Community:

Does your research explore the importance of peers in building a sense of community and connection for international students? Are you leading peer-focused programs at your institution that aim to build a sense of community for your students?

Students’ Expectations and Satisfaction:

Does your research explore whether international students’ expectations of an “Australian education” are being met? Does your institution have a robust way of evaluating and measuring international student satisfaction with your welcome programs, student support services and ongoing connections to the community?

Partnerships with Business or Community:

Are you working with a business or community partner to deliver a program/s to your international students that enhance their sense of community and connection with their city or region?

Professional Connectivity:

As a professional, what connections, resources and relationships are fundamental to your work with students? What achievements can you and your students share?

Hot Topics:

Are there any international education hot topics you are researching or working on at your institution that attending delegates would like to hear about?

While you will be asked to indicate your preferred presentation format, the program committee may request an alternative format be considered. The committee will allocate presentations to the program considering the authors’ preferences and the program’s balance.

Oral Presentations

This format is closest to the traditional ISANA conference oral presentation.  It consists of a 20-minute oral presentation plus 5 minutes Q&A.  Generally scheduled with 2-4 other orals of a similar sub-theme topic.

  • Submission requires a 250-word abstract overview of the presentation.
  • If accepted, the presenter(s) must present a 20-minute presentation at the conference, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A
  • The presentation will be scheduled in a concurrent session with 2-4 other orals submitted in the same sub-theme
  • All presenters participating in the presentation must register and pay the required fee to attend the conference.

Quick Bite Orals

These are shorter 10 minutes oral presentations scheduled in an appropriate session followed by a 3-5 minute Q&A.  They are particularly suited to student and novice conference presenters.

  • Submission requires a 250-word abstract overview of the presentation.
  • If accepted the presenter(s) must present a 10 minute presentation at the conference, followed by 3 minutes of Q&A
  • The presentation will be scheduled in a concurrent session with other Quick Bites submitted in the same sub-theme
  • All presenters participating in the presentation must register and pay the required fee to attend the conference.

Display Posters

Display Posters are a visual medium to show your research and findings in a way that lets the reader digest the information in their own time.

  • Submission requires a 250-word abstract overview of the poster.
  • If accepted, the presenter(s) must produce an A0 poster on paper card or similar material.
  • The poster will be displayed for the duration of the conference and will be available in the conference App.
  • All presenters who will be displaying the poster must register and pay the required fee to attend the conference.

Workshops

Workshops should be interactive and focus on a theme emphasising practical solutions. This is an opportunity to share your skills and knowledge, passing on the practical steps you have taken to improve your services and/or the students’ experience.

Workshops should involve a significant degree of participation from those in attendance. It is not meant to be a lecture.

  • Submission requires a 250-word abstract overview of the workshop.
  • If accepted, the presenter(s) must present a 60 or 90-minute workshop during the conference program.
  • All facilitators the workshop must register and pay the required fee to attend the conference.

Abstract Submission Procedure

  1. Prepare your abstract
    Prepare your 250 word abstract text. This applies to oral, quick bite orals and workshop presentations.
  2. Enter your contact details
    Go to the Presentation Portal (above) to enter your contact details.
  3. Enter Presenter and Author details
    Enter names and affiliations of the presenter and authors.  Also, enter brief biography of the presenter(s); 100 words is sufficient.
  4. Enter your abstract details
    ‘Cut and Paste’ the abstract text 250 words into the relevant field in the Presentation Portal.

For each abstract you submit, you will be asked to enter the following information:

Abstract Submission Details

  • Presentation title
  • Preferred presentation format
  • Theme
  • Name/s of author/s
  • Affiliation/s of author/s
  • Indicate the presenter
  • Short (100-word) biography of the presenter(s)

Abstract Review Process

The Program Committee will review all submitted abstracts.

As there are limited places for oral presentations, some abstracts submitted for oral presentation may be offered quick bite orals. Authors in these cases will be advised and asked to confirm whether they wish to present a quick bite oral.

Presenter Registration

All presenters must register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.
